Casting The Net In Network Marketing: Fishing For The MLM Opportunity That Is Right For You

by: Doralyn Bigelow

Secret Method - Binary Options Deciding upon a career path is a choice that each of us have faced at some point in our lives. As early as high school we were tested by guidance counselors, and directed by well-meaning parents, towards vocations which they felt were a strong fit for our unique set of skills. These well-intentioned navigators understood that success is closely linked to passion, and passion is most-often born when we are engaged in activities utilizing our innate gifts and talents. Yet the choice is ultimately ours, and the freedom to choose often leaves us wrestling with that decision and uncertain of the direction that is best for us.

In the vast ocean of Multi-Level marketing (MLM), making a career choice can be especially difficult. MLM businesses now operate in all 50 states and in more than 100 other countries worldwide. Having too much to choose from can be almost more frustrating than having a limited array of options. So where do you begin to cast your net for the MLM opportunity that is right for you?

There are several key considerations in this fishing expedition. Most important is that you do your research. If you are uncertain as to the type of product you would enjoy distributing, or the company for whom you would like to work, spend some time investigating the abundance of MLM opportunities available. There are numerous internet sites which can provide you with a wealth of information, including lists of the most successful and most popular MLM companies as well as those that are up-and-coming. Start by using the following differentiators to help whittle down that list of MLM companies based on the products or services they offer:

Quality: Are this company's products or services of high quality? Company-backed guarantees are often a great indicator of quality. Check consumer feedback and reports. Ask for a list of buyers in your area and contact them to get their opinions. Check company history. Generally, companies of long-standing have been operating on a high standard level of excellence.

Uniqueness: Do this company's products and services have a unique position in the consumer market, either because of their high quality and performance or the distinct nature of their offerings? Remember when whitening products took the toothpaste industry by storm? You want to be able to offer your customers a product or service that delivers a value that can't be found elsewhere. Study consumer trends. New product development is often driven by these shifts in consumer taste and intrigue.

Pricing: Are the services or products offered by this company reasonably-priced? Today's consumer is practically-minded and price-savvy. If they can find a similar product or service elsewhere, at a reduced price, your sales will suffer in spite of your charming smile.

Value: Not to be confused with pricing, value is related to other feel-good reasons for consumer purchase decisions. Value can be found in a product or service's problem-solving ability, convenience factors, health benefits, and even its attractiveness quotient.

Once you have selected that special handful of MLM businesses whose products or services meet your qualifications, spend time assessing the companies themselves. In that evaluation, be sure to consider the following:

History: Legitimate MLM companies are eager to share their company's history with you, including their tenure on the market, their growth in sales and in membership, and their consultant retention records

Management: As the saying goes, "Good companies start at the top", so it is important for you to take a close look at the people who are leading the company. How many years of experience do they have in MLM management? What are their professional backgrounds? Are they civic-minded? Are they visible and accessible to their consultants? Much of this information can be gathered from the company website, but your best resource in terms of ascertaining management style is to speak directly with other consultants. They have insider knowledge that a website may not reveal.

Corporate Philosophy and Company Vision: As with any affiliation, you want to align yourself with a MLM company whose values, beliefs and goals are similar to your own. Reading the Mission Statement on the company website is of some value, but look for indicators that this company is practicing what it preaches. The Vision & Values statement of Amway, one of the largest and best-known MLM companies, states "we work each and every day to help people live better lives . . . by sharing generously with the global community." This lofty statement is substantiated by the fact that this company has contributed more than $325 million dollars to nonprofit organizations around the world.

Support Systems: Spend time reviewing the company's website for information regarding the support systems in place for consultants. These should include a variety of benefits including sales training, professionally written promotional materials to aid in sales presentations, mentoring programs, educational materials, etc.

Communication Systems: Be sure to check for good indications of strong communication channels within the company. Do they regularly publish a company newsletter, encourage and support interaction among consultants, have an open-door policy with top management, provide telephone support, host employee conferences?

Compensation Plans: This is an area that requires some due diligence on your part, as it can be the determinant in whether or not your MLM experience pays off . . . literally. There are several types of MLM compensation plans, including the Unilevel, Binary, and Matrix versions of payment. Each of these plans has an established formula used to derive compensation pay-outs to consultants. It may prove helpful to investigate what some of the more successful MLM companies have in place. Remember, a "get rich quick" plan is seldom trustworthy. A legitimate business will expect hard work, time and effort in exchange for fair compensation.

As a final measure of assurance in your selection process, be sure to contact the Direct Selling Association, a national trade organization of leading companies that manufacture and distribute goods and services sold directly to consumers. The 200+ companies, who are members of this organization, are bound by a code of ethics. You should demand that level of assurance in any company you are considering. Remember, the time you take to scan the MLM waters before you cast your net will assure you land "the big one"!

Casting The Net In Network Marketing: Fishing For The MLM Opportunity That Is Right For You

Deciding upon a career path is a choice that each of us have faced at some point in our lives.
